Homes
Shelter is one of our most basic human needs.
But children need more than a house that keeps them safe from the elements—they need a home that keeps their hearts safe from the world. A strong, loving home that shelters the body while nurturing the soul is key to a child’s survival and healthy development. The lifelong foundation for a sense of security and belonging is built on the childhood experience of home. Children’s understanding of love, kindness, and healthy relationships is intertwined with their experiences with those who cared for them in childhood.
A child’s picture of heaven is drawn from his or her experience of home.
Without a safe and secure home, the good of other gifts and opportunities—education or nutritional support—can be undone through violence or exploitation. When we prepare a place for and welcome children without a home into a safe, loving one, we reflect the heart of our heavenly Father, who is preparing a place in heaven for all his children.
ALO helps provide a loving and nurturing home for 331 children at seven homes in five countries.
