Children’s Home Director Reports Missing Kids

CAMBODIA | Shortly after returning to Cambodia after a year at home in the United States, Train Up Children’s Home co-director Susan VanderMolen was having a difficult time adjusting. “I was really struggling . . . missing my kids after being home,” VanderMolen confessed. “I prayed, ‘God, I want to see something different this term.’”

Before long, she knew one way that God was answering her prayer. Police discovered a baby boy abandoned on a cold, wet beach. He was near death. Would Susan and her husband, Brett, take him in? Were they willing to give everything and risk their hearts to try to help a child who might not survive? Their answer was yes!

David’s story has been told before—how with medical intervention, much prayer, and love, the abandoned child recovered, thrived, and has blossomed into a special boy with God’s hand upon him. It’s easy to see how the VanderMolens have helped David.

What it’s not so easy to see is the equally profound impact rescuing David has had on the VanderMolens. “I knew why God brought him into my life,” an emotional Susan VanderMolen said. “God was going to do a work in his life and a work in my life also. I’m so thankful for David and that he came into our lives.”

“He rescued me because he delighted in me.” — Psalm 18:19 NIV
