Alecia: Tackling Something Big
“Bravery is tackling something bigger than our own capabilities, knowing that God is bigger still.”
Alecia Webb is the driving force behind Sunday School in My Language. The goal of this new project is to give every child in every Pacific nation a chance to learn about God through leveled Sunday school curriculum written in their language and cultural context. An estimated 3,000 children in Vanuatu, where the project was launched, are being blessed, while thousands more on other island nations wait for the project to receive the resources needed to expand. More than 100 languages are spoken in the Vanuatu islands, and countless more on other Pacific Islands, so the task is great. Your gift to ALO on behalf of Sunday School in My Language pays for curriculum rights, translation, adaptation, and printing; teacher training; and thousands of smiles every Sunday. This is Alecia’s testimony:
God has called me to lead a team effort in contextualizing and translating Sunday school materials for the Pacific Islands. This is a big task that challenges me and tests my courage. Before this, I had never held any leadership position. Following God on this path, I have experienced so many firsts, so many challenges, and so many rewards.
When I feel overwhelmed by the “what ifs” that could make me fearful, I cry out to God. He is always near, and He walks with me step by step. I’m often surprised by the ideas He drops into my mind.
Since we started Sunday School in My Language, dozens of children have been baptized in water, and five have been baptized in the Holy Spirit in the Sanma province (Vanuatu) alone. What if I hadn’t stepped out in faith, like the priests walking into the Jordan River (Joshua 3:14–17)? I couldn’t see the path that God had in mind, but I took the first step.
You may not know what God has in mind for your life. Maybe He’s calling you to pray more, to give more, or to go. When you are brave, stepping out in faith, eternity is changed…one person at a time.
