No Retreat: Dreaming Dreams
Joy* felt certain that God was calling her from her life and ministry in California to a new purpose among a new people. But where? She had no idea… no names or clear direction.
But she had dreams. “I began to dream about a different country,” Joy recalls, “… about different people I had never met before and a country I didn’t recognize.” For six months, Joy dreamed the dreams before finally discovering the name of the country to which she felt so drawn.
When she started living in [sensitive country], she couldn’t help but notice how devoted to Buddhism the people are (nearly 90 percent of the population are Buddhist; approximately 6 percent are Christians) and what a large role it plays in their daily lives. The people’s devotion was obvious from their daily offerings, prayers, and visits to the pagodas Joy saw everywhere. She soon understood that the people are very spiritual and acutely aware of and drawn to the spiritual realm.
Three local women who assisted Joy by cooking for the kids attending Joy’s programs were delighted to learn of her dreams about their community before coming.
“We also have had dreams,” the excited women told her. Each proceeded to tell of her own dream.
Now it was Joy’s turn to be excited. She recognized these dreams! Each dream was from the Bible. Although none of the women knew how to read, had never had a Bible or heard the stories, in their dreams, God was speaking His Word to them!
“As I explained the Scriptures to them, I could see the change in their spirits,” Joy said. All three women chose to follow Christ.
God loves the people of [sensitive country] and wants to fill them with His hope, joy, and love. In addition to raising up a courageous churchto risk all to share the gospel, God is speaking to people through dreams. He’s drawing them and revealing himself to them even as they sleep. Please pray that God will continue to speak and that the Bamar people will hear Him and open their hearts to Hismessage of truth, love, and hope.
