Shine Brighter
With God’s help and God’s people, tomorrow will be brighter.
Nias, Indonesia, was a truly dark place after two major disasters—the Great Tsunami and a massive earthquake—nearly destroyed the village within a matter of months. But one man, Pak Agus, shined the light of God’s love into that darkness. Taking dozens of earthquake orphans into his home, he relied on God—and the help of a compassionate local church—to feed, care for, and educate those God sent him.
When the church could no longer help, the situation once again seemed dark. But then God sent Jamie and Tasha Kemp to fan the flames of hope. More than helping out with food, clothing, shelter, and discipleship/educational opportunities, the Kemps shined the spotlight on the desperate need and awesome opportunities to make a difference in Nias. Their work inspired others to get involved—ALO and other friends in the USA, as well as local pastors and churches.
This year, the first orphanage student became a university graduate. This is a milestone not only for the orphan and the orphanage but also for the whole island. In spite of the long, dark night of devastation, poverty, and isolation, with God’s help and God’s people, tomorrow will be brighter.
