Building Bridges
Thailand There is a no-man’s land between one war-torn country and Thailand. Refugees desperate to escape the death and destruction of a relentless and bloody civil war crowd onto this tiny sliver of land. Here, they are within sight of Thailand and safety; yet most are left with little other than hope as they wait, just outside the border. There is only one way into Thailand—a bridge—and only a fortunate few are allowed to cross it. Sharp razor wire keeps the rest in “no-man’s land.”
And so, they wait. A makeshift village has grown up in this no-man’s land. The people there make do the best they can. They are beyond the reach of those who would help them. But they are not beyond God’s reach. God sees the suffering of these people. He sees their fears, their needs, and their deepest longings. He is building new “bridges” to reach the war-weary people.
One of these bridges is the Mercy Christ Learning Center—a brand-new school in this area. A local Thai pastor and her church felt compassion for stateless refugee children who were not allowed to attend Thai schools. The new school was built with help from caring friends of Asia’s Little Ones. None of the children have had any access to formal education in recent years. Some of them have never before heard the name of Jesus. Now they are seeing His mercy in action through the love and provision of His people.
When we build a school in Thailand, we are building a bridge of hope for these isolated people of this Buddhist nation.
Let us build with you.
